If you don't provide recent Immigrants in need with some kind of reasonable pension support they will eventually be able to get some kind of supplementary benefits from the Federal Government.
Don't forget it is the Federal Government that is responsible for the kind of immigrants it allows to come and stay in Canada. In General, the Canadian policy is to bring to Canada highly skilled immigrants or those that can make a substantial investment in Canada's business environment. However, in the recent past different wars throughout the World have produced this underclass of individuals with a relatively low skill set and not having much money. Canada is still a compassionate Country that believes that if people were legally brought into the Country then they should be looked after until they can become more independent and be able to contribute to this Society.

Permalink Reply by Joseph Rudigier on June 7, 2010 at 8:37pm I do love "my" country, BUT, we have made it so easy to immigrate that we have lowered our standards. Immigrants previously didn't ask nor demand things, they were just happy to be accepted and blended in with our society and CULTURE. Today, our standards are so low (because of our low birth rate it is told), that we now are accepting people from other countries who want their benefits increased without having to earn them. Other countries have realized the error is lowering their immigration standards and are making changes to raise them. I have always said, that if I were to emigrate to another country, I would accept their laws and culture, and respect them and try to blend in without complaint. It would be because I left my home country for a better place, not to make my new country like my "old country". I don't like what is happening to "my" country, and "my" politicians don't listen to me, perhaps I should leave and come back as an immigrant!

I too would like to know more about the hardship pension, the only additional amount I am aware of is the GIS which is not very much at all.
