It's been going on a while; A lot of emotions in a child murder case. Casey can get the death sentence, but will she? Death penalty is rare among women . What's your take? Is she guilty? will she get off, serve time or DP?

I think she is guilty.  I believe she deserves the death penalty.

I pray she frys................but then life with never parole would give her time possibly to get the psychiatric help she so needed from heaven knows when............I think parents terrified of her.........

time to think about the murder............

She'll get 2nd or Felony Manslaughter. Because the States case is circumstantial and an element of the 1st degree charge is the issues of intent. Working against her is the lying to the police officer which was proven in the trial.

I think she has a serious personality disorder which is very hard to treat. And her psychiatric status was never an issue in the trial. That means, the defense never raised it as exculpatory. A mental disorder can be raised again in the sentencing phase as a mitigating factor once she is found guilty. I think she'll go to prison for a long time and will not be treated sucessfully by a psychiatrist while there.

History will be kind to countries in terms of when they took the couragous step of abolishing the barbaric custom of capital punishment. You can't join the EEC unless you retire the hangman. I live in India where "honour" killings a sadly very common place. Parents killing their children because they do not approve of what they do. Sad that. I don't know what God does with prayers requesting "frys".

Well, now we know!

Not guilty of murdering her child ... SO WHO DID???

Crazy!

They are comparing this trial and verdict to the OJ trial and verdict.

If it was you or me, we'd be guilty guilty guilty!

The prosecution did not prove their case against her.

Just like the prosecution did not prove their case against O J.

And the defence team put enough doubt into the heads of the jury members by inventing an alternative explanation for the little girl's death.

I have a question ... where is the little girl's father?

Thanks Katherine.

It has been suggested that he died in a car accident.....not sure if it's true.

no, I don't think she has a conscious; she will try to go on her merry way.. making a fortune in books and interviews.BUT, she will, as O.J. did, life will be different, because most people think she did do it.

Shocked and sad! She will have to live with herself....I would hate to be her!

nothing is solved! If she didn't do it, who did? Police think she did it, so, more investigation is unlikely.

Hi Gary, Yes, some have compared it to oj. I don't know how the jury came to their conclusion. Maybe she is innocent but.....I really don't see it. It is just very very sad for everyone!

Maybe an apt comparision to OJ. Obviously he did it but I guess there was some little thing they couldn't prove so he got off. Maybe instead of proving guilt they (the accused) should have to prove innocence.
The standard is "beyond a reasonable doubt". "Reasonable" is determined by what a mythical reasonable person would conclude in the same situation. Obviously the jury understood that instruction differently than I would have. The wide use of DNA and TV crime shows may have altered the perception of "reasonable" in capital murder cases to "beyond all doubt" or certitude. If so, getting a conviction based on circumstantial evidence will be impossible even though dna is not available or are there any eye witnesses.

no one, including the mother, is sure who the father is. They think one that might have been the father was killed in a automobile accident.
