House with small livingroom - need some tips.

We have a house with an odd sized living room which is 9' by 20".  We are having trouble trying to place furniture so it does not look cramped.    Each of the 20' foot walls has a 7" x 7" jut which reduces flexibility in placing long items like a sofa, loveseat.  We want to place a sofa, loveseat, chair, electric fireplace and a 42" tv and stand.

Particulars - exit door to sunroom is along one wall 2' from one end and jut is 2' on other side of door.

On other long wall entrance doorway is 7' from one end and jut is 4' on other side of doorway.

If this is too confusing for any replies, do readers have knowledge of online sites that provide free advice on arranging furniture.  Thank you.

I'm not much of an artsy or handy person, Jim, but there are lots of Web sites that cover your topic. The Hyper link below will take you to an ehow.com page that offers some goodlooking tips and advice.

If you scroll around the page you'll note there are a number of other links on the same subject which might (or, sadly, might not) be useful. I sure hope so. Please let us know how you make out. Meantime I'll keep an eye open when I do similar searches...

You must have come up with something that worked for you by now!  Almost a year later!  Sounds like there were 2 smaller 9 X 10 rooms there at one time.

I would try making it a LR/TV space by placing the couch as a divider at some spot that might work with the larger area for LR and then place a desk behind the couch with your computer on it.  I am definitely in favour of having the TV and Computer in the same room, rather than have 2 isolated area for the inhabitants of the house to be segregated.
