The first time I met Jackie Burroughs was when I was
13yrs young. My brother David MacMahon was invited to she and Sue Bailey's debutante Ball. My mother insisted my brother take me as his date. I was a nervous wreck. Sue's mother - referred to as Aunt Sally Bailey went to Buffalo with my Mother and purchased a red, tripple layered gown which I hated!!
However, upon arriving at the Rosedale Mansion of her mother Edna Burroughs - I was welcomed like Royalty. I shall never forget the image of seeing Jackie parade down the staircase, a dream in white toole, with gardenias at her waist. She was gracious, intelligent and very intimidating to a little girl of 13!! Years later when I was first married my husband and I were invited to the opening of The Oban Inn in Niagara on the Lake which her delightful mother purchased and turned into one of the most beguiling places to go.
She gave all of her life to Canada, and acting.
May she Rest In Peace. BarbaraAnn MacMahonb-Firestone.
