Beatrice,

Congratulations on self-publishing your first book and YES you are now an Author. I am also in the process of writing my first book but looking at the VERY expensive and as you say lengthy process for traditional publishing, I am also focusing on digital or self-publishing.

I am curious as to whom did you go to convert your manuscript into an eBook or other method of digital publishing? I am presently working on my second draft of my manuscript. I haven't converted it yet to MS Word. I am looking for the perfect person that will help me in this area. Can you suggest someone who could help me here and who is relatively cost-effective? Thanks very much.

Hi Joe,.I went through Xlibris .com to get my book published ..They are the best by far.. As for the other ways, i have not tried it as yet. Good luck on your book ..mine is doing very well ,but having a hard time promoting it to the masses ,as have not much Experince in marketing, online.. Let me know how you make out with your book ..good luck///
If you have any information ,that would be helpful ,as to promoting this book, Audacity to Survive ,please let me know.. my website is AudacitytoSurvive.com to get a view ,and read an excerpt from it ../
I will be looking at your website as soon as I can. About promoting your book I found an excellent website that gives free live webinars with well know Authors, and marketing and/or promoting is a very popular topic here. The website is as follows: www.successfulauthorsecrets.com

The co-founders are Christine Kloser & Lynne Klippel. They have been giving these author interviews for about a week and a half now including to-night usually given at 9 P.M. (EST).

Tell me what you think.

Thanks Joe, really appreciate this info.. will now messege you on the other subject,[xlibris]..
Another site I have been told about for self publishing is www.lulu.com

I have never used it, but it can't hurt to give it a look.
Re:Lulu.com

I have published a book with Lulu - very pleased with the whole experience. I am working on a second one.

However, I do not consider myself an author in traditional sense. I was told by a traditional publisher that my first book, while well-written, would have a limited market. He suggested some major modifications in my approach to the subject, and then perhaps he would publish it. While I appreciated the constructive criticism, I decided not to pursue his course of action. My manuscript sat on a shelf until I read about Lulu about 3 years ago.

I am pleased to see my book in print, but I can certainly appreciate the value of working with an editor to improve my efforts. And guess what, my book has indeed reached a limited market. My book is available locally in a few venues and I get the odd sale on Amazon, but I have no expectations of making more than a few hundred sales. The people that buy it seem to like and that's good enough for me.

Thank you John, very helpful for Joe I have published mine ,so am familiar with lu lu .com
Because I self-published autobiographies of people I interviewed, a bookstore operator told me I wasn't really an author! I know that was merely her personal opinion, it hit a soft spot in my ego. As to "getting heard'. the marketing part is tough especially on a personality who finds public speaking and business visiting very painful. Yes-painful! I have been fortunate enough to sell a few hundred copies--I don't have that many relatives--so I guess the books are enjoyed whether I am considered an author or not! They are listed on Amazon.com and Amazon.ca but that is not a revenue source as they pay such a tiny royalty and then don't send it until it reaches a fairly high total. I would like to get the books into e-book form but don't know how to go about that.

As an aside, one of the dear women who shared her story just passed away yesterday at age 89. She is the second of the women who shared her story to pass away(other was 92) and although some of the six families were a bit negative of my interviewing their mother/grandmother--I asked for exclusive reproduction rights--, after the women died, they were thankful the story was in print.

I understand I must not promote my personal business on here. My e-mail address is miramichi@shaw.ca
