Tony Bennett on 9/11: "'They Flew The Plane In, But We Caused It"

In a recent interview with Sirius Radio shock jock Howard Stern, legendary crooner Tony Bennett made some controversial remarks regarding 9/11.

ABC News reports that Bennett told Stern, “They flew the plane in, but we caused it, because we were bombing them and they told us to stop.”

Bennett — who is a WWII veteran — is a renowned pacifist. Drafted by the U.S. Army in November 1944, Bennett served as an infantryman in Europe, moving across France, and later into Germany. His experiences in combat forever changed his attitudes toward war.

"The first time I saw a dead German, that's when I became a pacifist," Bennett told Stern.

When the Shock Jock pressed Bennett on how the United States should deal with terrorism — specifically those responsible for the 2001 attack on the World Trade Center — Bennett was upfront with his opinions:

“But who are the terrorists? Are we the terrorists or are they the terrorists? Two wrongs don’t make a right [...] They flew the plane in, but we caused it, because we were bombing them and they told us to stop.”

Here's a video of the controversial interview:

What are your thoughts on Bennett's opinions? Even though he's an entertainer, does his WWII experience give more weight to what he says?

WOW AGAIN !!!!!!!!!  I HAD TO REPLY !!!!

THE ROTCHILDS FAMILY,,   GO AND FIND OUT WHAT THEY DID TO THE WORLD ECONOMY STARTING

WITH THE US CIVIL WAR AND THE NAPOLEONIC WARS, THEY CAME FROM GERMANY  !!!!!!!!

I still don't get your point.  They were a European family and you're talking ancient history. U.S. civil war and the Napoleonic wars.  Come on man.  Get modern.

IRAN ???????  THE CIA PLANTED THE SHAH (A US DICTATOR ) IN IRAN, AND PANAMA, AND IRAQ, AND CHILE, ETC !!!!!!!! THE US HAS NURTURED DICTATORS ALL OVER THE WORLD !!!!!!!!

You are wrong about the Shah.  The CIA. did not plant him.  He was the ruler of Iran until his overthrow from a long line of rulers of Iran. What dictator did they plant in Panama and Iraq and Chile?

NAIVE ??????? AT LEAST I USE INFOS FROM BOTH SIDE OF THE FENCE AND NOT ONLY FROM THE US SIDE,

No you don't you look at it only from your side.  You have a notion about the U.S. in your head and you don't even consider the other side.

I AM ALMOST SURE YOU THINK THE CHRISTIANS WILL WIN OVER THE MUSLIMS SOMEDAY ???

I have no idea about that and neither do you.  I didn't know they were fighting each other so one could win.

AND WHAT ABOUT ISRAEL ? WILL THEY ACCEPT THE PALESTINIANS ???????

Both sides have been working on that for a long time.  It's up to each side to come to terms not just one.

I AM WORRY OF WHAT YOU MIGHT THINK OF THE FRENCH IN QUEBEC,,,,,,,,,

YES I AM FRENCH, AND I TOO WAS FOOLED BY THE BIBLE STORIES WHEN I WAS YOUNG, WALT DISNEY

WAS MUCH BETTER !!!!!!!!!!

My concern about Quebec is the constant reminder of separation from Canada.  My other concern is how they treat the English language in Quebec, for instance putting barriers on signs in English.  You don't see the same barriers in other provinces.  If someone wants to put up a sign in English they can go right ahead and do it.

JE SUIS TRÈS ABBASOURDI PAR LE GENRE DE RÉACTIONS FABULEUSES QUI REBONDISSENT DE LA VOIX

D'UN CORRESPONDANT TEL QUE VOUS !!   Please translate that into English.  I don't have command of the French language but I wish I did.

Well until the law was struck down the French language had to predominate on a sign on an establishment.  English only was not permitted and you can correct me if I am wrong.

I'm sorry but I don't get your point at all on the Rothchild family and what it has to do with the topic we are discussing. . What are you trying to say?

The shah was a ruler of Iran from 1941.  You said he was planted by the CIA.  He wasn't planted he was part of royalty from ancient times. He was overthrown by a religious coup.  Saddam was not supplied with WMD's by Rumsfeld.  Noriega was a criminal wanted for murder in France.  He was put on trial and found guilty.

I will take that bet anytime you want to make it. But at at the same time I will bet you that a Canadian national can't point out Louisiana on a map unless it was marked.

Wow, this has really become intense!!

However, Joe Blow, I had to reply to your following statement.

Google "Operation Ajax".  Another name for it is Iranian 1953 coup d'etat.  The Iranian people had always hated the Shah and his father and how they had asserted themselves as the rulers of Iran.  The Shah was deposed and Mohammed Mossadegh was elected, democratically, as Prime Minister of Iran.  Iran had had its own style of democracy before the Pahlavi family asserted itself on the country.  Mossadegh wanted to re-patriate Iran's oil so that it could be of more use to its own people than to the U.S. and Europe.  So the CIA orchestrated dissent against Mossadegh and a revolt which overthrew him and replaced the Shah on the throne.  The Shah had been very generous with the U.S. with Iran's oil.  For the next 20 years most Iranians deeply resented this, and when they had the chance they overthrew the Shah, and the relationship with the U.S. is now what it is.

As for dictators in Panama and elsewhere - no one took political control of any South or Central American country without the approval of the United States.  Google: Jacobo Arbenz Guzman.  He was democratically elected in Guatemala in 1953, and according to the wishes of his voters he wanted to improve their economic standing and allow their needs to drive the economy of the country.  But this ran contrary to the needs of the United Fruit Company that liked employing near-slave labour, who had no say about working conditions and kept the costs of fruit low so that United Fruit could sell it for high profits around the world.  The United States aided his overthrow and the establishment of a dictatorship friendlier to U.S. interests.  Guatemala became a hellhole for many decades, and still is in many ways.  The U.S. gave itself the right to interfere in the politics of the Americas with the Monroe Doctrine (google that too), that gave the U.S. the unequivocal right to interfere in the politics of the Americas if its interests were threatened in any way.  This originally was to protect Spain or Great Britain trying to conquer the United States in the political reality of the early 1800s, but it has been used to make sure American businessmen get cheap labour, cheap resources and that the prosperity of the U.S. is not threatened by too much independence in the Americas.  Luckily Canada got the message early and acquiesed.  Canadian policy has always been to actively not threated U.S. dominance of the economy or its political agenda.

That was why the United States invaded Grenada (they elected a socialist president). That was why the U.S. aided the overthrow of Salvador Allende in Chile, the first democratically elected Marxist in history, (who was killed, and his followers were killed and tortured in a way that matched very closely what Marxists have been doing in other countries).  That's why the U.S. knew it could invade Panama and arrest their president Noriega, when he had not broken any laws in the U.S., and that's why Reagan knew he could get away with planting mines in Nicaragua's harbours.  The U.S. also funded the overthrow of Patrice Lumumba, the first president of the Congo.

Also, Reagan was determined to destroy and crush "communism" wherever it found seed.  So anyone threatening any fascist or right-wing dictatorship was automatically labelled "communist".  Cambodia had recently been liberated from the Khmer Rouge because Han Sen, a former Khmer Rouge who turned against them because of their atrocities was imprisoned. He escaped to Vietnam and got the Vietnamese army to invade Cambodia and depose the Khmer Rouge.  Vietnam was the only country to try to do anything about the murderous Khmer Rouge.  But because Vietnam was officially communist, Reagan convinced the U.N. to place an embargo on Cambodia.  Eventually the Cambodians were forced to take the Khmer Rouge back into a 3-way power share.  Why did Reagan support the Khmer Rouge?  Because not even Russia and China would have anything to do with the Khmer Rouge's kind of communism.  So if Khmer Rouge was not allied to the USSR or China it had to be on "our" side.  The Cambodians suffered even more years of the Khmer Rouge on the insistence of the Reagan administration.  Han Sen is now dictator of Cambodia, and he is not so great, but he is light years better than the Khmer Rouge.

It's all documented.

Krystyna:  It's a good thread.  We learn a lot from the discussions.

First of all you skip a bit in your comment.  I said the Shah was not planted by the U.S.

You say the Shah was deposed and Mohammed Mossadegh was elected democratically.

So how did the Shah get deposed in the first place?  You are skipping to the 1979 coup.

Second of all you forget to mention the role of Britain in Iran.  You only blame the U.S.

In 1951, Iran's oil industry was nationalized with near-unanimous support of Iran's parliament in a bill introduced by Mossadegh who led the nationalist parliamentarian faction. Iran's oil had been controlled by the British-owned Anglo-Iranian Oil

So do you blame the U.K. for taking action to get their assets back.?

It's the same as Castro taking over U.S. interests without any compensation.

Most of your post is copied from a website which is not favourable to the U.S.

When you do that you should name the source or the link.

The link you copied over also states that Canadian policy has always been to actively not treated U.S. dominance of the the economy or its political agenda.

Do you really believe that?  So did Canada stop buying bananas because they were cheap?

That's what this thread is all about.  Throwing stones in a glass house.

You seem to think the U.S. can walk in anywhere willy nilly and take over.

They can't.  But they have every right to protect U.S. interests.

You also mention the Monroe Doctrine.

I don't know about you but when Cuba wanted to put missiles pointed at the U.S. I was glad that Kennedy had the balls to stop him.

Now you keep talking about aiding overthrows.   Do you not think the enemies of the U.S. were also working in the background at the same time.  Do you think the Soviet Union didn't have any plants or agents around or funding anyone.  That's what the Cold War was all about and from my view the U.S. won the Cold War.

Seems to me like your argument is a one way street.

Do you think Panama should be able to nationalize the Panama Canal and tell the U.S. that they can't use it after the U.S. sunk billions into building the canal?

Do you think Castro should be able to have missiles pointed at the U.S.?

That's what it's all about isn't it?

I am going to visit my son, a few days in New Orleans, LA. Be back Monday
The idea of forcing people  to buy health insurance is, some people wouldn't spend their money, but depend on emergency care. This is merely to make people take responsibility for themselves, like auto insurance.

I know the idea.

However, as I said before in the U.S. it's against the constitution to force people to buy that insurance.  There is no such regulation in Canada.  We pay for the health care through taxes.

It's not like auto insurance.  If you don't have a car you don't pay for auto insurance.  It's voluntary.  You want to own a car, you need insurance.

It is being debated right now in the Supreme Court of the U.S.

HI JOE,,

ANYTHING NEW ON THE ROTHCHILDS FAMILY YET  ???????????????

HAVE A GOOD WEEK END,,,,,,,,,,
