The only reason I joined this group is so I can say nice things.

AM 740 is an amazing station with very good and personable announcers.
But the heart of any great station is the unsung heroes behind the scenes and namely the "Program Directors" who decide what gets done and in what order.

Without good programming the broadcast presentation loses direction, it can seem slightly off.

AM 740 got it spot on and has kept it that way ever since.

When 1050 CHUM went off the air (I know all sports crap, might as well have just closed down) anyway, I went to 1150, which was and is pretty good.

But can you tell the slight difference? It is an intangible perhaps but it is apparent. 740 has it goin on.

OK thats all your getting for now :-)

Cheers all.

I would love to say hello and extend my best wishes to all of the AM 740 staff and the stations listeners!  Found this station about 3 years ago while camping.  It was on a small transistor radio that was given to me on my sixth birthday...I'm 49 now...!  Having a radio that what part of my life growing up and the combination of the All Night Jukebox playing throughout the night , really captivated me.  I have been an avid AM radio listener since I could turn one on but I have never ran across the dial and found a station that has impacted my life the way AM 740 has..  Best of luck to the station and everyone involved....  Truly the best of the best.  I thank you... as sure as the entire world does....

I have been listening to AM740 since I first found the station while on a trip to Toronto in 2003.  The songs played were not played anywhere else.  Since it became the "new" AM740, many of the very old songs are no longer played but the mix is a good one.  It's one of the very few stations to play Matt Dusk, John McDermott and Louie Armstrong.  The oldies stations in the NYC area mostly play the usual pop mix of rock and R and B.  Up until I got a new computer las

t week, my only means of hearing the station was, no laughter now, on my old Sony Walkman.  That, of course, was after dark.   I also picked it up in the car during night hours.  It has kept me company many nights when I would visit a friend up in Boston.  I would smile up until I would lose the station somewhere in Connecticut.   Now I can listen at home anytime.   If only my computer at work was capable.......sigh.   Keep the great music coming and how about playing Eric Bogle sometime.  The man writes wonderful songs!

Today marks Berry Gordy's 82nd birthday. While the Motown founder is rightly recognized for revolutionizing American popular music with the "Motor City" sound, he did have... well, a few misses.

After all, how else to explain his initial decision to block the release of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" as a single because it reportedly had "no commercial potential"?

This week in 1966, The Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations" reached #4 on the American charts.

But did you know that in 1966, it was the most expensive pop song ever recorded at a price of $50,000 US, over $300,000 in today’s prices?
