I am forming this support group that will deal specifically with lung-related illnesses; I think our generation smoked a whole lot. I suffered from severe Emphysema. Oct.30th marks 1 year I received a life-saving double-lung transplant. Let's talk.

I notice there haven't been any posts for over a year, but I still thought anyone who is still trying to quit might be interested to know St. Michael's Hospital in conjunction with CAMH has a Quit Smoking Program that has an orientation and meetings afterward. It also provides up to a year's worth of free stop smoking medicines of your choice. I am picking up mine tomorrow.
Comment by June Elizabeth Harder on February 19, 2012 at 11:36pm Hi! I'll turn 65 on May 31st and have been smoking for over 50 years. I've been diagnosed with the start of emphysema and I KNOW I have to quit, but, haven't been able to. I can't understand why I'm not able to just make up my mind and quit, but so far.....
I am severely psychologically addicted and as is often said, "It's been my only friend through all these years!". I found out when I was about 40 that I'm allergic to the smoke so I fill up with phlegm and cough violently, more and more these last few years. Lately, I even feel the loss of oxygen! You'd think that'd be enough to get me to quit, but uh-uh.
I've said for a long time that they'd have to put me in straight jacket in a padded room and leave me there for me to be able to quit!
I've never know anyone who had severe emphysema so maybe by joining this group and actually having someone explain to me how horrible it gets, it might motivate me to do "it". Help Melody!
