Hi: My name is Helen. In June. 2013. my grandson drowned during an outing with his peers on a hot, sunny day. He was 17 years old.

The wounds ran deep, especially  leaving family without saying goodbye. As with any sudden death, shock is the first emotion to set in, physical pain...the usual reactions to a death. But to lose a boy who was on the verge of becoming a man, the pain seemed greater somehow. One minute, he was a typical teenage boy, kind of quiet and shy, hanging out with his friends. The next minute, he was lying in a funeral home. Once the dust settled, there were questions like why did this happen, why to him. why to his mom,dad and sister. Extended family and friends...all grieving. Let's talk about your family member or friend who left too early. How did you cope? Share your stories and we can perhaps help each other cope and perhaps find empathy for each other.
