I don;t go very often. Here some casinos are owned and operated by natives and they keep the money, but they have to pay out a certain percentage or they will get fined. Some elect to pay the fine because it's cheaper than giving people a good payout once in a while.
The government only got into it 12 years ago when they saw how much money the natives were making.
Good to see you Pat. I'm torn between getting a new laptop and going on a trip, lol.
Comment by MarilynLou Fraser on June 7, 2012 at 5:16pm I hope I'm thru with the accidents, but have to continue using a walker. Such a nuisance.
Comment by MarilynLou Fraser on June 7, 2012 at 5:16pm When I lived in Mississauga, before moving here 2 yrs ago, I had a 3-part file on the wall and put everything in its proper slot. But when I went to move I had a fall just as I was starting to pack. Several friends came in to do packing for me and we couldn't get that file off the wall so everything was thrown in a box. It was a real jumble and after I got here I didn't know what was in what box. I'm only trying to get things sorted out now and throw out old paperwork, etc. before this next move.
I've found the missing statements (needed to calculate rent paid) and installed the software and have a start on it. The many numbered boxes can be frustrating, and I haven't tackled the medical expenses yet. I should be able to get it in the mail next week. I've got the password to file on the web, but that really confused me in previous years, so I'll see this year.
Comment by Pat Connaughan on June 7, 2012 at 3:50pm Well, I'm here for my bi-weekly visit. It seems lately that is about how often I get to really go through my mail.
I was in Ottawa last week but didn't get the tablet I wanted. There is an upgrade to the one I want coming out next month so I'm going to wait a few more weeks. Meanwhile, my laptop is just barely chugging alone.
Good luck to you Marilyn. I really hope that things work out for you this time. You have been through so much. MarilynLou, I hope you get your taxes done. Mine are fairly complicated so there is someone who has been doing them for many years now. When he was doing two returns he charged us $80. Now that there is only me, he does it for $50. To me, that is a pretty good deal.
I don't go to the casinos or slots but I know a lot of people who do - especially to the track in Ottawa. If you want to go to a full-fledged casino, then you can slip across the border to Hull. A lot of people like to go to NY (Ogdensburg/Messina) for shopping and the casino. It is just across the border and, from what I have heard, the really cater to the Canadians big time. I would like to go over just for some shopping. Especially now since the limits of what you can bring back have changed.
Plumber just arrived to fix my leaky toilet so I guess I better go and see how much this is going to set me back.
Comment by Marilyn Craig on June 7, 2012 at 3:18pm If this deal goes though, I have so much to learn, once I cross over the boarder, places, terms rules and regulation, It will be nice on one hand to explore and stressful the other, until things smooth out
60,000 job his he stupid, !! Not good when you bring in the bigger guys... not for sure how the Casino's work up there, but over 70% of ours are owned by the native American's, on native American land, and no ONE messess with there rules, regulation or profits
Comment by MarilynLou Fraser on June 7, 2012 at 2:52pm Thunder storm moving in here now. It's getting dark and starting to rumble. Don't think power will go off, tho'.
I was laid up this past winter for three months too with a pulmonary embolism. Had to stay right in bed and/or in hospital. I had an accordion file folder and everything for the month went in there to be sorted out later when I felt like it. come income tax time all I had to do was go through that file and sort from there. something I did from bed, computer and studio tax by my side. done in half a day and e filed and confirmation back from them within the hour. Won't help this year, but might help for next, especially with moving.
Comment by MarilynLou Fraser on June 7, 2012 at 2:30pm As usual, I'm missing some of my bank statements and have to go searching. Everything is so difficult after having moved twice and being in convalescent too. Everything is mixed up and mislaid.
Here's a link to the Good Old Days
Marilynlou, how are th taxes coming?
McGinty is the Premier of Ontario Marilyn. If there is a race track in London, it will be harness. the only thoroughbred tracks in Ontario are Woodbine in Toronto and Ft. Erie. Woodbine is one of the best tracks in North America. McGinty had withdrawn funding for all tracks. The liberals made a deal with the tracks to put in casinos 12 years ago when none of the municipalities wanted them. The provincial government got 75% of all the money from them and the rest went to the municipality, track and for purses for the races. He's ended that agreement because he doesn't think the government is getting enough of the pot. and so he wants to set up his own casinos somewhere else where they will get 100% of the take, with one of them being a super casino. He wanted it down in Ontario Place, but that was squashed just yesterday by the committee looking into it.Most of the tracks won't have their funding cut off until next March, but three, Ft, Erie being one of them have already had their funding withdrawn. All this is going to cost rural Ontario 60,000 jobs, even down London way.
taxwisw I can't help you, but I bet someone will.
