Do you think we will see the day when both CARP and the Zoomer Magazine will help 50+ Canadians that just want 'real possibilities' in their pre-retirement or retirement life. The AARP is going in this new direction and I think in Canada we're being left behind. Personally, instead of increasing my consumption of doo-dads, I want to become more active and creative as in 'productive longevity'.

I'm new to the Zoomer Magazine Forum.  My favorite part in this magazine is The Zoomer Philosophy by Moses Znaimer. I would like to see more articles like this one to get more ideas about how us Zoomers can become more active, creative, productive and prosperous in their retirement life. I believe in productive longevity as compared to the consumer culture that too many of us are now following.

Hi Eric.  That number cannot be reached from Mississauga, ON.  Guess I'll try the Zoomer Media Toronto number.

Just call the call centre @ 1-800-363-8748 and if you're subscription is still in effect, they should be able to mail you a replacement copy.

I wonder why I never received the June issue with Helen Miram on the cover.  Could it be the mailman is still reading it?

Hi

New to this group, but I love the Zoomer magazine, I look forward to it coming and see what the rest of the world is doing out there. Love to read articles about different people. Margaret Attwood. etc.etc. I'm a people person, and maybe I'll meet some new people in this group

A few quick comments on Zoomer magazine’s summer issue. CARP members in the east were delighted to see the content focusing on this part of Canada- the celebration of East Coast culture, our markets and breweries. The article on Hoagy Carmichael Jr fishing in the Grand Cascapedia River was wonderful. As always in every issue of Zoomer, we find a buffet of interesting items, some of special interest, some not so much. We were very pleased to read Ross Mayot’s tribute to long time CARP volunteer, Ian Downie. The CARP Action section continues to elicit interest. We’re hearing more former CARP members planning to rejoin. The only disappointment we’ve heard mentioned is having Dustin Hoffman on the cover- the third non-Canadian cover subject in recent issues. The article on Dustin is fine. But couldn’t we put waders on Peter Mansbridge or Neil Young or George Chuvalo and have Bryan Adams photograph them in a Canadian river? Canadian Zoomers treasure their Canadian subjects.

At 46 years young I just starting my own female hockey team called the Stanley Cupcakes and now I proudly take another step to break this generation gap, into the unknown world of social media.

I must be the only one of my friends not on Facebook. Twitter sounds like a bird and YouTube makes me laugh but my kids and my dad, a senior himself, know all about the benefits.

Psyched up, I find the Facebook site. Should I use my real name or a sexy one like “Hot Hips”?

I decide that if I was using this social media tool for connecting to others, then I better use my real name so people can find me. Apparently it will allow me to connect to my past schoolmates and my world before children.

Name created but I laugh out loud... password! I create one but write it down because guaranteed I will have forgotten it by tomorrow.

Not bad, I’m in. Now I can simply search for friends. I type in my sister’s name, confident she will be my friend. Within minutes, up pops a picture of her, granted it looks like it was taken through the bottom of a pop bottle. Again I laugh out loud. There she is, I click on her name and presto, I can send her a note, in real time. I see that she is friends with her daughters and my daughter.

So I search my husband, my kids and my work. Amazingly, I find that I can connect back to my world before kids.

I find a global site called Camp Tawingo where I went every summer starting at nine years old. I can see the names of some of the members, which I recognize from when I was there and pictures and stories (called blogs) which tell about it as it is today.

This warms my heart and makes me smile.

Lunch is over I have to log out and get back to reality but it’s been worth the adventure. I can’t wait to search for old boyfriends and high school friends so we can reminisce about old times. I might even ask my kids and my 78-year-old dad to be Facebook friends.

Clara, using a Visa on the internet is much safer than sticking your address in a public forum like this! I have a suggestion for you, and others like you who still don't trust the net when it comes to buying with Visa. Go to your bank and ask them to set you up with a new card with a $500 limit, just for use on the internet. We did that several years back, but now use it mostly for buying gas as that's one place where they often scan your card and make a duplicate. Had it happen to us in the past.
