[Snap Judgement] Is This Week's New Yorker Cover Funny Or Offensive?

We are interested in our community's assessment of this week's New Yorker cover.

Is this funny or offensive? Consider the publication's illustrious traditional of allegorical cover art.

The November cover — done by illustrator Christoph Niemann — depicts a stream of pilgrims moving quietly through the night under a barbed-wire fence akin to the Mexico-United States barrier located in the southwestern United States.

"I draw a parallel between current immigrants and early settlers-the hope is that it will provide context, to help keep things in perspective," Niemann told the International Business Times. "Cartoonists, not politicians, should be the ones who condense political discussions into simple images."

Would you laugh out loud? Or does this strike you as offensive?

It's satirical, so it's both.

i think it's brilliant...not funny exactly but skewers the notion that people who leave/emigrate are "bad" people, that economic refugees are not refugees, and that they constitute "the other"...of course our native people didn't keep us out!
