Coming from such a small family unit of only 3 I really appreciate having the large family group. I love to entertain friends and enjoy a house full of people. I enjoy going out with friends to various restaurants, see new movies or a show and just discover what's going on around me. I'm open to new ideas and hope to find more time to continue developing who I am...that's still a learning process. I hoping to connect with new friends on this site.

Living - Something to think about!

Posted on May 3, 2010 at 10:39am 1 Comment

This was a speech made by Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Anna Quindlen at the graduation ceremony of an American university where she was awarded an Honorary PhD.

Most brilliant, to the point speech to get all of us thinking....

"I'm a novelist. My work is human nature. Real life is all I know. Don't ever confuse the two, your life and your work. You will walk out of here this afternoon with only one thing that no one else has. There will be… Continue

Cranky Old Man

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in country New South Wales, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.

Later, when the nurses were going through his meagre possessions, they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.

One nurse took her copy to Melbourne. The old man's sole bequest to posterity has… Continue

Hi Annie.  I meant to drop by yesterday to wish you a Happy Birthday, but got waylaid.  I hope you had a good one.

I still have a hankering for those panini sandwiches.  Maybe when the weather improves??  We have very high winds today, but all-in-all, I can't complain about this winter.

Cheers, Annette

Yes, Annie (your're quite welcome), regulations regarding the food industry do vary in Quebec but then again they have their own laws, so it seems even though the 'food' regulations are administered federally!

Annie, I just read about your interest in cheese and thought I would comment. You see, I worked in the food industry for many years and although my profession is a French translator, I did come in contact woth many food scientists. One of my former colleagues and close friend is currently an inspector with the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency). I saw her on Saturday and since she audits the cheese industry, we spoke about cheese. Guelph has a cheese making course offered once a year in the spring. You should be able to find details on the U. of Guelph website, the professor is Art Hill. Raw milk is not available to make cheese unless bought through the Dairy Farmers of Ontario (quantities of 1000 L). To sell cheese to the public you need to be licensed under the Milk Act by Ont. Min of Agriculture (OMAFRA),namely my friend or someone from her office. So you see, Annie, our food regulations in Canada differ greatly from those in the US.

Hi Annie:
Will you have time to go for a panini lunch this week? I'm free all the rest of the week.
I just got back from Port Perry. The friend I was visiting is being besieged in her home by a male Cardinal who is attacking his reflection in all the windows. It's mating season and he thinks he's fighting off rivals. Talk about a bird brain. It made me think of your story of the one attacking and following your car.
Cheers, Annette
