Kimberly said… I refuse to be drugged insensitive. For what would life be without the feel of sadness to show the glory of gladness? What would life be if I could not cry for a lost loved one? What would life be if the a joke was told and I could not feel the erruption of laughter deep in my belly?
Life would be without emotion. And I would not want a life where I did not feel emotion. So I am just fine with the tingling of fear to let me know that I need to rethink where I am at. For if you are driving down a road and many signs warn you that there is danger ahead then you feel fear.... For sure it is an evolutionary throw back to when our hypothalmus activated those chemicals sending signals to the brain creating "the fight or flight" response. Fast breathing, racing heart, and tense energized muscles bringing us aware of the need to just be "aware."
But we can even learn to control what kicks us into fight or flight response, that is, if we so desire....

Nick Drake, “Hazey Jane”
‘Do you curse where you come from,
Do you swear in the night

I touched her knee…and said, “what is…

Sometimes in my dreams I meet my brother again. P.
He is 15 years older than me, which means in 2012 he will turn 60. I will turn 45, which is the age at which my dad “had” me. My mother did most of the work, actually. Dad dropped her off at the hospital and went home, she told me. Hopefully to take care of my siblings: my sisters, L and S, 18 and 16, and P., whose status as “number one son” was about to be reduced to honorific only. I was number one from the first minute I came out…

It’s been a rather bad week, learning of my friend’s suicide, then the death of my sister’s dog.
The outpour of sincere solicitude from my virtual friends on OS has made a tremendous difference in how I’ve dealt with these deaths.
(I wish my friend had had such a community…)
My attitude to the non-OS- community , however, has deteriorated to perhaps an all-time low.
If I were to…

I got my draft notice yesterday. I have two weeks before I ship out to Earth.
I’m scared, I admit it. I can barely remember what Earth was like, because I was only five in 1972 when the aliens zapped me off to Aspertame . I am, ah, 44 earth-years now. 21 Aspartame years. Time to go back, and resume my life.
My mom an intelligent woman, a sociologist who embraced evolutionary biology for a paradigm. I can’t tell you what my dad’s paradigm was, but it must have been one…
