I could tell that she wanted me by the way she ignored me.

Years ago I ended up at a friends apartment one night and spent the night drinking, playing guitar and singing, totally oblivious to the fact that there were a couple of girls sleeping in one of the bedrooms. In the morning, I'm hung over lying face down on a mattress on the living room floor and I hear a girl in the kitchen. With my face still buried in the mattress I say ..... If you're making coffee I'll have one. I could tell that she… Continue

The Oscars - is it just me?

Nielsen reports the Oscar ratings were up 13% over last year - to just over 36 million from 32 million. But last year was the all-time low. By comparison, the Oscars reached over 55 million households in 1998, when "Titanic" won best picture.

I'm not certain whether it's a sign of becoming a curmudgeon, but I am having more and more difficulty really caring about who wins the Oscars. My anecdotal research - of all age groups - confirms a lack of enthusiasm. I started out determined… Continue

Life Lessons from Shirley

Part of my volunteer responsibilities as a Copper Mountain Ambassador is to take visitors who are unfamiliar with the area on a mountain tour. This week I took Shirley Ziebarth touring. She made it clear to me that she only wanted to ski advanced terrain. No beginner or intermediate stuff for her! As we began, I quickly realized I would need to kick it up a notch if I wanted to keep up with her. We zoomed around the mountain covering steep pitches, bumps, and much of the advanced terrain on the… Continue

Marketing Calls

If I ever have the opportunity to meet the inventors of marketing calls outsourced by various companies who entrusted them to not be obnoxious, annoying, and calling people to the tune of 50 times in a given day, I would personally love to see him/her hung by the neck for I am sure that if Alexander Graham Bell was here (for you that do not know - he was the inventor of the TELEPHONE!!!!!) he would say that he did not expect his invention to be abused as it is today

Happiness is Falling from the Sky

“It seems like happiness is falling from the sky.” What a wonderful sentence from a man who lives among the poorest in the world. It was said by Sohail Qureshi, father of Sabe who is the best friend of 9-year old Rubina Ali, child actor in the Oscar winning movie ‘Slumdog Millionnaire’.

When I read the story this morning on my computer I could feel the sheer joy of the people in this poverty stricken community on the outskirts of Mumbai, where Rubina was chosen for her part in the… Continue

Beware of Antibiotics!!

Hello everyone...friends and soon-to-be friends...I have just recovered (still not back to normal) from a bout of C. Difficile. Won't explain much more since the Internet is full of info...go to MSNBC and click on Health...you will find out tons of stuff. Because of a cold contracted on Boxing Day that evolved into a strep throat (the bane of my existence..it seems...for many decades) I took a fairly well-known antiobiotic (Amoxicillin)..usually no problem. It cured the problem after 10 days… Continue
