Baby Boomers are in for a shock!!! We may think that we are prepared for the sadness that will accompany our parents’ death. In fact we are usually totally unprepared for this life experience. To lose the people in your life that have always been there and know you the best is a life-altering event.
I was sure that I understood the pain that would accompany the eventual death of my mother. Professionally I was a nurse and involved in palliative care and bereavement counselling so I…

I have written a book on grief - "Baby Boomers Face Grief - Survival and Recovery" and I do many speaking engagements on this subject. Although the book is aimed for the Baby boomers it is a general book about grief.
Part of the problem with grief is our society/culture will not allow people to talk about their feelings. It has been my pet peeve - hence the book. My background is a degree in nursing and 20 years working in the community health care system.
If you would…

OK, a lot of us moan and groan about shovelling snow, putting on the boots and winter coats and scarves, etc. I like winter....really, I do! I have always loved to play in the snow, when I was little, when I was in my teens, even after I was married and had children. We would skate (I'm not a good skater), toboggan, ski (I'm not a good skier either) or simply make a snowman(person). That I can do well. Then came the days of the snowmachine! Oh blessed us!
When the children were…

Bet that title got someones attention. In my Beavis and Butthead days we called them tits. Lets put tits back into our vocabulary and get rid of that silly word boobs. Yes sometimes my mind is in the gutter and I do revert to my 14 year old personality. Despite this anomaly in my persona, I remain one hell of a nice guy.

Well, late last week was pretty annoying to say the least. Lots of pain and frustration but, the eagle painting continues. Today I got it blocked in, tail feathers on and head in place. I should have it done tomorrow if things go alright. Thanks for everyones' patience! I have decided not to post Ken's picture taken at the pub on St. Patrick's day. See you!

This advocacy group will have a highly focused purpose: to end the exclusion of people over 50 from the workforce. I wish good luck to all Zoomers who are enjoying a comfortable retirement, but many of us are not so lucky. We are now facing a perfect storm: our pension funds (if we have any) are melting down, companies lower costs by forcing out their older and more expensive employees, and the reality is that people 50+, once they have lost their jobs, find it almost impossible to get back in…

Displaced
Most of us go thru life totally oblivious to how our body mind and souls are impacted by negative or positive experiences in our daily lives. As we get older we tend to forget, a good thing for sure. Creatures of habit that don’t normaly like change we write it off as no big deals. I could get into a profound psychobabble of human nature and it’s deep-rooted ramifications. How about a simple thing like moving for instance? Maybe getting rid of the junk from the basement!…
