They apparently can help with everything in one's life.…

Kids today grow up amid a welter of junk-food advertisements and calorie-crazy fast-food joints. The numbers are startling: nearly one-fifth
of our nation’s 4-year-olds are obese. Over 17 percent of children aged 12-19 are obese—triple
the figure in 1980. And the percentages are even… Continue

In October of 2008 my husband and I purchased a 2009 Dodge Journey which had all the bells and whistles, I love new technology so I was completely in love with this vehicle. Well turns out it was a lemon, to date it has 19 work orders the last being this past weekend when the Transmission went caput on the way back from Edmonton, we had to sit on the side of the road for an hour and a half waiting for the tow truck. I was on hold for 40 mins with Road Side assistance, these things should not… Continue

I’m crouching in a burned-out shell of a large passenger jet in a scrap yard somewhere in the middle of Afghanistan. In my hands is a FAMAS assault rifle with 60 rounds of ammunition. Behind my back in a holster is a shotgun. I have just 10 shells left for that gun after a fierce battle in a nearby cave in which my buddy was killed; I overcame our attacker with a blast to his midsection. What a way to celebrate my recent promotion to Staff Sergeant.
Overhead, a helicopter is hovering… Continue

The birds are singing, and flowers are starting to bloom—it’s time for spring cleaning.
Each year, as part of my spring cleaning, I go through my closet and toss clothes that don’t fit, are outdated or have lost their usefulness and simply clutter up my life. I’ve since learned to apply the same process to mental housekeeping.
The advent of spring provides a unique opportunity to rid ourselves of beliefs and legends that weigh our hearts down and send the numbers on the scale… Continue

New years eve day 2009 I was going to visit my older brother on the other side of town. My Dodge caravan rust bucket with 350,000 km on it decided to give up the ghost. I guess it was upset about something and blew its head gasket. I managed to nurse the old girl back home. I had always said if the bloody thing blew up I would cash it in and buy a bus pass! In the last five… Continue

Shortly before turning 60, I decided to change my lifestyle so I could lose 62 pounds and recover the size and energy of my youth. Nearly a decade later, I’ve attained most of the goals I initially set for myself. Yet ironically enough, unless I am careful, focusing on goals can easily undermine my ability to stay fit.
For years, I dieted and exercised just enough to lose pounds and inches. The regimens were severe and usually involved self-discipline and deprivation. On those rare… Continue

One of the most difficult and unsettling problems I deal with in my office is the damage caused children by a tumultuous marriage followed by a tumultuous divorce.
There is nothing sadder than a child frozen in fear and shame because
they have inadvertently betrayed one parent to another and can never seem to
get things right with both parents at the same time.
Through no fault of their own, these children… Continue

is said that when facing a death many people see their life flash
before their eyes. I decided not to wait to the end. Rather than a
flash it was more of a feature film played out on the big screen of my
imagination. I relaxed and let my mind float from one memory to
another. I was felt such deep appreciation for the wonderful people in
my life, the chance to live in three… Continue

People will accept your ideas much more readily if you tell them Benjamin Franklin said it first.
