Busy Day

A busy, but very rewarding day in the Burn ICU in Toronto today. I work in many Critical Care Units thruout the GTA. Just made my lunches for the next 2 days work, then off Monday. Hoping to swim and kayak then.
Be safe to all who are travelling this long W/E and have fun, friends...Donna

Building Entrances and Egress - Barrier Free Living

Individuals with disabilities need at least one readily accessible entrance that connects the exterior accessible route and the interior accessible route as a fire safety precaution; it is desirable to also provide an alternative way out. This blog discusses the requirements for both entrances and emergency exits. The discussion of exits also raises points about planning for emergency evacuation and the provision of warning systems.

Diggin' for Gold!

It's amazing what kids will do. While enjoying a coffee in the sitting area at Chapters the other day, there was a child sitting in a stroller next to the table beside us. He did not have a care in the world as he dug for gold up his nasal passage.

Looking around, I'm sure that he noticed everyone staring at him as he continued his mission. He obviously did not worry about what the other people might be thinking about him. He was… Continue

WOW, where the heck have I been!

Time flies when you're having fun!

Haven't been on here in a while, busy with HONEY DO lists, and all that STUFF that you try to put off, but then it's all there still waiting to get done!

So now the painting is done, and of course the weather is insane! So can't play outside, so we play indoors. (I'm moving to the Yukon, they found OUR weather up there!)

I assume everyone else is keeping busy? The year is flying by, and I may need to start tuning my snow blower! ;-)

I'll… Continue

The Bedroom - Getting ready for long term care at home?

In a family setting, the bedroom is the personal realm, the only room perhaps, in which an individual will have privacy and control of their environment. At least some leisure activities should be accommodated in the bedroom. The provision of an en suite bathroom, if this is possible, will further protect the privacy of the individual(s).

Needs Assessment

In the home of a disabled individual who lives alone,… Continue

we are not getting older

...but we are definately getting better. Just loving this age. I was so happy to turn 50,four years ago. I had a 'power goddess' feeling about it.
Still keeping the attitude, and lots of younger people around my life so I can keep interested and aware of what's new,and all the changing ways to look after yourself.I have found throughout my life that creativity is an important element when keeping it going.

27 July 2009: Don't use seniors as scapegoats.

Moncton Times-Transcript

To The Editor:

The policy in New Brunswick regarding restrictions for young drivers may seem unfair and everyone has the right to appeal for change. But please don't use toxic remarks about senior drivers to strengthen your arguments.

A recent letter reads "It should be noted that there was no corresponding law limiting senior citizens' driving rights. In fact, a 95-year-old driver now has more freedom to travel the roads than our daughter."

I Spend the Weekend In Heartbreak Hotel

Actually it was a Westin; a nice place at the foot of Blue Mountain. Holly and I were in town with the CARP crew to run our booth at the 2009 Elvis Festival in Collingwood, Ontario. This trip marked my third Elvis Festival in a row, but the first one in which CARP had a full-time presence.

Before I go much further I must confess that I’ve been to Graceland –twice. The first time was in 1996, when a friend and I rode from Houston… Continue

A formula that works! Accessibility = Independent Living

I’m concerned that Canada’s national health care system is declining. I remember when Bob Rae chopped Ontario’s health care budget as Premiere of our Province. People were left without urgent care and as a result Ontarians had to look after themselves instead of relying solely on our system.

Did Ontario learn something from this experience?

McGuinty’s government is putting new laws in to place and directing more funding towards creating an accessible Ontario. I believe… Continue

Willow, the German Shepherd, Catches the Waves!

Willow, the German Shepherd, Catching the Waves

Anyone that has ever the privilege of having a German Shepherd as your best friend can understand this short story.

Meet Willow, my 5 years old German Shepherd puppy, and I do mean “puppy”. She is the light of my life. Even though she is our family dog, she is my dog.

Willow’s favorite pass time is catching things, and I mean anything. She’s even caught birds and brought them to me with a sad look as if… Continue

Summer fun or summer job search?

With this economy many people are asking themselves this question. Should I take the summer off or should I go full tilt into a job search. Can you afford to be out of the job search market in the summer? No you cannot!

An outstanding 70% of job searchers fall out of the market in July and August, providing significant opportunities to strike gold for the remaining 30%.

Yes, due to vacations, the recruitment period can be lengthened, but resist the opportunity to put your… Continue
