You’re worth more than you know.

It happened at lunch the other day. I was sitting in our office lunchroom with some of my co-workers, when the conversation led to its usual topic – having children and all the work that goes with it (oh woe is me – you just don’t understand, since you never had any).

And that always, always, causes me to either pick up my stuff and leave the room (I’ll eat at my desk if you don’t mind), or just smile and nod – yes, you’re right, I am a dimwit when it comes to that – please enlighten… Continue

Water for Elephants

Water for Elephants

This summer I spent some time, in between studying, to read a really great book, written by Sara Gruen called Water For Elephants. I would recommend it for sure. Ms. Gruen is now coming out with a new book called Ape House and I'm sure it will be another great read. So, I went to her website recently and found out that Ms. Gruen is not just a writer she is also a philanthropist. On her website I found a link to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. This trust is dedicated… Continue

A milestone worth mentioning.

My Mom has just spent the last two days cooking.

For most of us, it's not a big deal. But for my family, it certainly is.

During the past few years, we have watched her health deteriorate. She even reached a "I don't care" period. That was when we decided to take her to the hospital to be checked out.

Mom, it was found out then, has been living with sleep apnea. When we took her in that time, she also had a lot of water on her lungs. And her heart has to survive… Continue

Time Share Scam: Boutique Resort La Jolla Mazatlan Mexico

Scammed of $6175.00 USD!

On December 17, 2007 my husband and I attended a sales presentation at Boutique Resort La Jolla in Mazatlan, Mexico. Our salesman was Mr. Fernando Lobato. We told Mr. Lobato, that we did not require another timeshare, but we were willing to listen to his presentation on fractional ownership points. We told Mr. Lobato, that we had been trying to sell our Virginia Beach, Virginia timeshare for over a year. Mr. Lobato told us he would be able to sell our… Continue

MSG

MSG - is thid good for us?

The food additive MSG (Mono-Sodium Glutamate) is a slow poison. MSG hides behind 25 or more names, such as Natural Flavoring.' MSG is even in your favorite coffee from Tim Horton's and Starbucks coffee shops!

I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, and so did a friend of mine, John Erb. He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario , Canada , and spent years working for the… Continue

This may not be the best piece I have written/published, but certainly one of the most, if not THE most articles I have had online.

It will run all week, as it turns out, one year this week since my double-lung transplant (October 30th).

Comments at the site encouraged and welcome.

You never know who it may help.…

Hey Robert, rather than send the email, I though it appropriate to post the Italy travel info here: A few more notes for the journey to Rome and Venice.

Now, remember, when you are in Rome, you refer to this city as “Roma” not Rome while you are talking to the locals. They will be more than helpful! The same applies to “Venetia” not Venice.

When you arrive in Rome remember you would have been traveling all night. The excitement of the trip will build your adrenalin, making… Continue

Travelling to italy

Well it's that time of the year when I pack up my cameras and head to My Italy! Last years trip was great with no snags and superb weather. Italy is a great place to travel in the late fall end of October. All the tourist are gone and the weather is still great fro travel and photo shooting. Early morning fog and mist in the north around Milan and Venice tend to dissipate around noon as the sun burns through the fog. traveling south to Florence and Sienna proves to be great for that time of… Continue

It's not Manhattan, but it's not bad.

I got back from a conference in NYC about two weeks ago and have been so busy, i haven't had much time to reflect on the city itself, being cloistered in a conference room the better part of two days.

I love New York City and all the richness of their urban environment. There is so much to see and do there, both as a tourist and I'm sure as a resident.

When I got back to Toronto, I had to relocate my office further downtown than I already was. Now I'm overlooking the… Continue

Passchendaele - Movie Review

If you’re going to see Passchendaele expecting to see an opening something like the opening of Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan, you won’t. Not right away, that is. This film, by actor-writer-director Paul Gross, is at its heart a love story. Based on real events and on the memories of his grandfather, Michael Dunne, Gross was inspired to make the film after his grandfather passed away.

When this film opens, Gross, playing his grandfather, is leading a four man patrol during… Continue

October update..

So things are settling down quite nicely. Planning an estate sale for Mom's house to finish selling off the Renaissance furniture that just doesn't fit into any of her children's homes. The house is sold, yahoo, with a lot of misgivings and emotions; but a young expectant couple will bring new life into the old homestead. One door closes another one opens,.. and life continues on the next path.

I'm off to Toronto to visit my daughters family and enjoy my baby grandsons first… Continue

And what did you do for me today?

I do a lot. However, expect little back! That seems to work for me. I left the competitive world some time ago. As long as I can do for myself, it makes things a lot easier for me.

After twenty- eight years in AA I have changed my wants and needs considerably. My wants are many however my needs are few. This was not always the case for sure. To many years of being in service of others has become second nature. I humbly submit to many failures over my lifetime. I have failed…
