Happy New Year 2012

“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.”

Split Pea Soup to Greet the New Year

It is time to say goodbye to the Christmas ham and hello to the New Year.

This soup  is my tradition for New Years Day or any other time when I find my self in possession of a ham bone bone. This year one of our local grocery stores had shank half hams on sale for $.99 per pound just before Christmas. A $10 spiral-sliced ham provided us with about six or seven pounds of neatly sliced ham and a…

Freelance Writing As A Stepping Stone To Journalism Career

Knowing how to write is the most basic skill that one needs to launch a journalism career. However, not all writers—no matter how good they might be—are given the chance or the break that they need. Some good writers opt to wait for that big break…

RV Adventures - Yellowstone

We had a minor disagreement about the trip on the Natchez Trace and that with some Holiday busyness got the RV stuck!

So, I decided to stop trying to make the trip go in the proper order. If you watched The X Factor then I'll tell you I'm going to do this "in no particular order" and you'll know the accent I'm putting on LOL

When we went to National Parks we would pick an RV park in a town nearby. To go to Yellowstone we camped at a great little park right on…

Billy and Me - New Year's Eve 1959

New Year’s Eve, 1959. It was a mild winter evening in Brooklyn that year. A good night to be in Times Square…not that we were there. We locals always thought Times Square was for tourists.

Billy and I were walking the…

New Year's Eve '68- Thrills and Spills with the High School Golden Boy

I stopped celebrating New Year’s Eve during my seventeenth year on this earth. That year was so traumatic it cured me for life of participating in any future celebrations. Well,…

No Leverage in Yoga

I’ve done spine twists, sitting sideways on a chair, using the back of the chair for leverage to increase the twist for over 30 years.  For over 30 years, I’ve enjoyed the warmth along my spine after a good twist.  Until my last yoga class.

We sat in our chairs.  We twisted.  Then it was time to put the chairs away and do floor work.  I couldn’t lift the chair. I couldn’t even stand straight.  I spent the rest of…

Are You Ready for the New Year? Do You Suffer from the No Time Syndrome?

Excuses for not exercising each day abound. Maybe the excuse involves an injury, or a medical condition, or a dislike of gym, or the absence of a spouse to walk with, or a job that involves travel.

One excuse, though, crops up more than any other: there just isn’t enough time! As a chronic user of this excuse, I can write about it as an expert. For most of my adult life, I could never find the time to exercise.

Perhaps the problem begins with the verb “find.” It must be…

Why my book "The Christmas Sock" was never published

"Celeste the sock was getting a good soak. Immersed in laundry soap and hot water, she swished around, glad to have a good wash. Somehow she had been worn two days in a row and she was becoming ‘toned’. She belonged to a book seller who preferred the word ‘toned’ to ‘yellow'."

Four years ago I wrote a children's story called "The Christmas Sock". In my neurotic mind I…

Out of the Mouthes of Babes!

I think this very short story is perhaps "seasonal."

http://remembrancetrilogy.com/

Once there was a very bright little girl named Katie maybe six or seven years old. Her mother had a home office. Katy knew that she must never interrupt her mother while at work or especially not when she was on the phone or with clients.

But that day, Katie was determined to find out something that had been bothering her for a…

How to Gift Wrap a Cat! Not Approved by Hallmark!

Yesterday my friend Raya questioned in her blog how one might wrap a rescue cat for her daughter’s Christmas present. Of course I have watched every Hallmark movie known to man and have personally seen how they have achieved it in their films. Since Hallmark is the "king of well wishes" and gift wrapping I figured they would have a seasonal webpage devoted to wrapping a cat.

No matter what I ‘Googled’ there was no such site available.  There were many cute videos from YouTube…

Christmas Gift For Friend

A Handmade Gift Perfect For Friends

The trend of giving handmade gifts is not only limited to special occasions these days. In fact, it is becoming a common practice to people who would just want to give another person something special because that person truly matters to him or her.

If you are one of those who would want to give somebody, say a friend, something special because he or she helped you in any way possible, now is the time to consider what type of handmade gift…
