With the 50th anniversary of the death of President Kennedy approaching, I can hear all the Gen X’ers, Y’ers and Millenials moaning, “We don’t care that you can remember what you were doing when you heard that Kennedy had been shot.”
Well, it changed our lives forever which is a fairly significant event. What if he’d lived? Think of the possibilities. Our lives might be quite different…Continue
Last week I was doing some research work on Eliza and William Kelly who donated the stained glass windows on the Epistle side of St. James Anglican church in Carleton Place, ON. when I got side tracked. The windows of St. John the Beloved and St. Andrew have been plaguing me for awhile now, but there is nothing more…

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”
And with these opening words begins one of the best-loved novels of all time, Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice”.
She had to write under the name “A Lady” as women authors were looked upon with much disdain and derision in those days. It’s a shame Austen didn’t receive the accolades then that she has in the recent past as she writes with such…Continue
THE RED DRESS
I love a New Year’s Eve party! I like the noise, the jubilation, the kissing and the general atmosphere of "feel good". What I don’t like is trying to find that special outfit to wear. Should I go through my closet to see what I can find, or should I scour the stores for something nice that fits me and my pocketbook. I had made up my mind after searching the ads that I definitely wanted a RED DRESS this year. Well I start with the flyers and ads. Ye Gads! Dresses and…Continue
This morning at the dentist without a car or phone I called "the father" from the dentists office to come pick me up. What I did not know was that on the other end he was glancing at the unknown number and did not pick up as he thought it was some associate he did not care to talk to. Not wanting to spend a few hours at a location without a mall I called son number 1. What usually results in me going into message he picked up on the second ring. I immediately…Continue
Many years ago – possibly in the last century – a poet-translator sent me a poem about Merlin that he had translated from Breton into English. It was perfect for the Loch Ness Monster website I was building at the time, and he was happy to give it to me so long as his name was on it.
Since then we have been corresponding about a wide range of topics. He has translated his brother’s fascinating poetry into English.…Continue

I am thankful for a lot of things.
I am thankful for my many friends who have been there through thick and think, including my family, both by blood and by marriage.
I am thankful every time I wake up breathing, too see one more day, even though it is tough, it still is a…Continue
There is a strange tale that surfaces now and again, about an old school janitor that worked hard every single day of his life. Most of Mr. Henry's time was spent in the boiler room where the smell of Dustbane and old tuna sandwiches filled the air.
Now being a janitor is a pretty thankless job, but he treated the school in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. with love, yet no one seemed to love him back. He longed for the sound of his own children that might run on the shiny…
According to the Canadians Women's Foundation: half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16. On any given day in Canada, more than 3,300 women (along with their 3,000 children) are forced to sleep in an emergency shelter to…
When those moments of memories hit your daily working and highly functional mind you feel the sensation of sheer terror immediately wanting to cry. The fascinating thing about this whole scenario is that you don’t have a clear image of the past…Continue
Once upon a time we connected the dots to colour a picture in an old colouring book, or some of our friends had so many freckles it was like connecting the dots. Later, some of us graduated to other things.
Have you ever connected the dots to see what's…Continue
When we went to school we ate sugar-filled goodies, nuclear coloured food, and lots of what we would now consider to be called mystery meat. My mother would set the table up every few months for her canasta club and either bake pineapple-cream cheese squares or serve a big apple pie with slices of cheddar cheese on the side. When I saw these polka-dot dishes today at As Good As New Thrift Store I thought of apple pie.

WELL THAT DOES IT
If I didn't have a gazillionth reason to leave Quebec I just got it from the very website I am blogging for.
Like any other site there are contests and it was no surprise that I couldn't enter the trip to Ireland one but......
I moved my mother in with me five years ago. She’d been living alone since dad died in 2003, but it was becoming apparent that after four years on her own, at the age of 85 she would be better off under my wing. Severe osteoarthritis, cataracts and diverticular disease were taking their toll. I was somewhat trepidatious about us living together as we’d never had a close relationship; in fact she drove me bloody nuts when I was younger!
In any event, as I am an only child and…Continue

The new Facebook game is to get your friends to post intriguing information they figure people don't know about them. My life is pretty well an open book and I cannot imagine anyone not knowing stuff about me. A few years ago we had a "2 truths and a lie" Open Call going on Open Salon. So I thought I would do something completely different than 8 things:
True or False?
1. I was labeled and called by the press…Continue
I went back to the dentist who pulled my wisdom tooth for a check-up. I had asked for the earliest appointment of the day. When I arrived at the waiting room, two other people were there ahead of me.
One was a young man of about 20. He was chatting with the 50ish woman in the other chair. “I had a dream last night that I was an elephant and poachers were taking my tusks.”…Continue

I’m not dead yet
I’m not used to people showing love, care and concern for me. It doesn’t mean that I haven’t had people showing me love, care and concern. I have had an abundance of positive loving energies coming to me but I was so closed, so isolated in my own self-loathing that no one could get in.
I realize today that…Continue
