It's Sunday, and our TV viewing for the evening is planned. Are there any ABC shows in our line up tonight? I think not. I am not even bothering with "Desperate Housewives" this year. After I saw the props for the…
My older sister had a lot of Motown records. We liked the music and it made us younger kids want to move. I thought it was pretty cool hearing a kid from Indiana just about my age belt out one top ten radio hit after another. He made it look as easy as ABC.
It still makes me sad to think how this super-kid turned out. Beyond that, I'm not sure…Continue
My friend Richard Brown a.k.a Cranky Cuss sent me a link to an entertainment story yesterday, and after reading it my blood pressure shot up 100 fold. I swear my fingers could not type fast enough after the fact.
Dear Andy Griffith,
I will be whistling this song all day because when everything else was going wrong in the world Andy Taylor and the citizens of Mayberry made me smile. I am not going to go into your life achievements which are many, but instead I am going to leave a page full of moments that made the rest of the world love you. Personally, I wasn't much of a Matlock fan but my father never missed an…Continue
My childhood friend Sheila Wallet kept every letter and piece of paper that I had ever sent to her from 1973-1989. Sheila emailed me last year and asked me if I wanted all the old letters and newspaper clippings I had sent her throughout the years. When I received them they were neatly piled and carefully dated with the envelopes stapled to the letters. I had never seen anything like this and questioned whether my friend had OCD or was she…

High on the scrotum pole of odd stories this week comes this doozie out of Las Vegas.
Famed Dr. Oz has offered 100-pound scrotum owner Welsey Warren Jr. free removal surgery in exchange for exclusive interview rights. Warren declined the offer because allegedly he does not wish to lose the fame he has acquired. This rare lower condition creates excess water fluid that collects around…Continue
My grandmother began to wear wigs at the age of 52. It was about the same time she started watching the NBC TV show Queen of the Day. Her hair had been badly burned at the hands of a 1930's salon perm and her thinning hair failed to cover her…Continue
What happens when a restaurant and nightclub starts losing business? They close down and renovate, and in most cases when they re-open, business still suffers. When big changes start happening all at once on a TV series, it's usually a sign that things aren't…
Once upon a time my late mother wanted me to become a ballerina. Although I was armed with a little natural talent I think it was a dream of hers to be able to dance as she was confined to a wheel chair day in and day out. Don't get me wrong; I loved to dance and still do but I…
Say it ain't so Dame Maggie Smith! According to UK tabloid The Mirror, Dowager Countess, played by Dame Maggie Smith, and the "Abbey's" resident heartthrob Matt Crawley may not be returning to the estate for Seasons 4 and 5. When I first heard the news I was nothing but astounded and upset.
"I couldn't have…
On February 16th the Canadian media announced that former teen star Neil Hope, also known as Derek "Wheels" Wheeler of the TV show "Degrassi" was dead. Sadly, people come and go but in a believe it or not moment Hope had actually died five years ago of natural causes at the age of 35. The final…
A few years after I was born, my Dad met a stranger who was new to our small town.
From the beginning, Dad was fascinated with this enchanting newcomer and soon invited him to live with our family. The stranger was quickly accepted and was around from then on.
As I grew up, I never questioned his place in my family. In my young mind, he had a special niche. My parents were…
I can't remember how old I was when I started watching the Charlie Brown holiday programs. All I know is I can still quote a lot of the text from each particular show with tears in my eyes.
Charlie Brown reminds me of a lot of people I walked through life with. They were not sure…Continue
This week's challenge is to blog “If I could be anyone on TV. . ."
That's a tall order for me, because I am one of those miserable hippie types who don't watch very much TV. I watch sports and the occasional British mystery series at my Mother-in-Law's house once a or twice a week, and I watch South Park episodes on their website. That's about it for current TV pop culture. I don't…Continue
The first TV program I remember watching as a child was the Mantovani Show and not only was it boring but it was in black and white. Because we lived 14 miles from the Vermont border in Quebec we were lucky to be able to receive American television but my family insisted on progressing from…Continue
As someone gently eases me into a ‘Rascal’ wheelchair a few years from now I will still be the ultimate celebrity fan. It does not necessarily mean I place anyone on a pedestal; it's just an admiration society for someone that does something out of the ordinary.
Selling online has put me in contact with a few and when Diva Zappa bought vintage knitting magazines from me I…Continue
Tonight begins another season of Jersey Shore and for three weeks now I admit I have watched the show every day at 4 pm while I am making dinner. I have no idea why I am doing it but I am. Call me a voyeur but it is like a train wreck in motion that I cannot keep my eyes off of. The "Housewives" no longer do it for me and these kids on Jersey Shore have more sex than I would in four life times.
I realize that I am no longer “16 and Pregnant”…Continue
Take yourself back, way back — to a time when you could watch Stevie Wonder groove shake the CNE Grandstand, or…Continue

The other day I was sitting here in the living room and a TV show came on – “Hell’s Kitchen” I couldn’t believe my ears. The verbal abuse I was hearing made the TV show cops look like PG 13.
But what makes things worse, at least in my opinion is that after a bit of research I found out that this show was the top rated show in the US for that hour.
That begs the question “What kind of society are we living in that not only promotes but patronizes verbal…Continue
