Right now I cannot place which one of the girls in the above school annual picture became the new girl from the class of 1965.
Did it happen it Grade 8 or was it Grade 7?
All I know is the day before she arrived our teacher told us there would be a new addition to…Continue
Sitting in a grade 9 art class I wondered how I could do a book cover art project and relate it to the latest "infatuation" in my life. I cannot remember how the word eagle came in to play right now and wonder if it might have been his nickname. But there I was showing art teacher Miss Marion Phelps my idea of doing a cover for a book called The Eagle Has Landed. She lowered her glasses a tad and gave me a small pat on the back. Quite perplexed; she asked me why on…Continue

Last week I asked the former students of CHS on Facebook what unique gifts they have offered the world and what was their present passion. Responses were slow because we are now in the heat of summer vacation; so I have decided to put it all into a melting pot of thoughts this week.
Last year I read a blog about "rattling pies in the sky" by a friend named Kit Duncan and was confused because I had never heard that term before. Being Canadian I have heard of a "pie in the…Continue

This week the 1973 film American Graffiti was brought up in conversation and I decided to ask everyone where they were in the year of '62. Most of us on the Facebook board were still hitting the candy stores in those days but there are older 60's teenagers in our group and we wanted to know what Cowansville's very own Curt Henderson and Steve Bolander were up to.
Claudia Allen began a Facebook thread remembering how she used to watch Hockey Night in Canada on her Grandfather's TV as no one else owned one in the immediate family. I soon remembered coming home from school and watching American Bandstand every afternoon or listening to my Mother ramble on about what soap-opera horrors were on the Guiding Light that day. These small thoughts of course got the whole group remembering what their favourite shows…Continue
Unless you lived under some rock on Sutton Mountain most of the CHS kids will remember the square dances at the old school house in East Farnham and the monthly dance at the High School gym. Not to remain in the shadows were Reverend Peacock's dances at the Anglican church hall, and the Knights of Columbus Hall's live band teen extravaganzas.

Davy Crockett a.k.a Fess Parker
Decker Way and I have fond memories of the legendary Davy Crockett, and both of us owned Davy Crockett hats and on my 7th birthday I even got a Davy Crockett cake. Today if Davy Crockett was on TV PETA would probably force the…Continue

No matter how many years you have been out of High School there will always be a few students that you will remember for being different. These aren't the kids that were smart or athletic; it's the kids that walked down their own highway no matter what the consequences.
"Roads ... where we're going, we don't need roads." - Marty McFly from Back to the…Continue
Last week on the Cowansville High School Facebook group Massey Vanier graduate John Staton asked us to name the building pictured above that is located in Cowansville. After 79…Continue
One morning last week I woke up and had memories of my teenage years as a weekend hippie. No one in the Knight family could be a full time one according to my father; so I did my best with the limited time I was allowed.
I remember one day in 1966 sitting at the Riviera Cafe/Harry's Poolroom with my friends at lunchtime and hearing The Buffalo Springfield’s new song For What it’s Worth. Everybody in that cafe instantly came together and sang the…
Judith Bell wrote this week on the Cowansville High School Facebook group that the Massey Vanier School Board had installed a new phone system last August and the…Continue
