So You Want to Move to Canada Eh?

Yesterday after the Supreme Court decision on Obamacare hundreds of disgruntled citizens of the United States immediately ran to Twitter to express their personal dissatisfaction. A lot of people exclaimed they were immediately moving to Canada, where life is supposedly grand.

Do they not understand that Canada is a …

Dreams From the Grand Canyons of My Mind

I dreamt last night that I was flying through the Grand Canyons of my mind.  I saw the ridges that took me years to climb and have learned that life is nothing really but black and white.

I followed the river and remembered the pain it took to crawl out of the water before I nearly drowned. I almost died waiting for a sign that wasn't really ever there. …

Remedies for Everything but a Lobotomy- Believe it or Not!

Yesterday I was reading a great book by Joey Green who wrote the Magic Brands book. I love these books that give you all these solutions to cure everything in the world - even exorcism.  Of course I have to disagree with some of them and thought I would share.

Here is a good one for allergies:

Cut open the sides of several trash bags and wrap your mattress and pillows with plastic bags. Tape it into place to prevent dust mites from burrowing into your…

A Happy "Gone with the Wind" Mother’s Day to Lois Lane

A few months ago I went to an estate sale that was simply out of this world. Everything was pre-1960 and I was just like a kid in a candy store. I scored a large box of vintage patterns, hats and purses that I guarded with my life. A green hand crochet bag caught my eye because my grandmother had carried the very same style for years. When I opened it, there inside was a hand coloured photograph of a woman that was signed,

                                               “Forever yours,…

To My "Kitchen Table "Mother With Help From Jim Reeves

Dear Agnes,

1...Thank you for remembering every birthday I have had in 59 years with a greeting card. I also appreciate your constant documenting of photos and newspaper clippings of my life, as well as every one else you have ever known. One day those 50 pounds of scrapbooks weighing down your cupboard shelf are going to become a historian's dream

2...Thank you for rescuing snippets of my late mother's plants while the construction crew tore my…

Raymond Chandler's Pulp Fiction Noir Mother's Day Cake

Please note that Mr. Chandler never wrote this. This is just my interpretation of what he might have written as a Mother's Day essay. I doubt he would have as he didn't really seem like a 1-800- Flowers man.

I grind out my cigarette on the top of the cookbook leaving a still smoldering mark on the book jacket. I didn’t really care - the cookbook had formerly belonged to my…

The Symphony of the Louisville Slugger and THE DISH

The Louisville Slugger shown in the photograph below is the 180 Paul O’Neill model. It is one hundred percent American made and yes that is the same Yankees player that Kramer had to get to hit two home runs so he could get the Steinbrenner birthday card back for George. But none of that really matters right now because I am furious.

My Duran Duran Moments on Record Store Day

Saturday from dawn to dusk was Record Store Day. For anyone who does not live with an audiophile and has no clue what it is, I will give you a brief sentence or two. Record Store Day was dreamed up by one Chris Brown in 2007.

Chris is an employee of the independent record store chain, Bull Moose, located in Maine and New Hampshire. It is the one day of the year that all of the mom and pop record stores come together with artists to celebrate…

Mrs. Cheung's Blue Meat & My Week in Wacky Personal Photos

I see a lot of odd things when I make my journeys from here to there during the week. Because of the pending full moon things seemed to be a bit more exaggerated this week. Enjoy!

"The Weekly World News is reporting this week that Miss Cheung of China got up to go to the bathroom late one night and saw a blue light coming from her kitchen. The glow came from a slab of pork that she had bought the day before and left on the…
