Was it Monday or Tuesday that Beef Stew was served or do I remember it being Macaroni Soup? Every week without fail the mimeographed menu was posted and no matter what it was; we lined up half way down the basement of the new wing each day hoping it might be hot dogs.
For a whopping 50 cents; we were entitled to have about 15 minutes to eat our interesting meal that came with either white or chocolate milk from the Cowansville Dairy.
The worst part of the whole ordeal was lining up with the 'cold-lunch' people to have the teacher of the day scrutinize what we threw out. Too much scraped off the plate got a scowl that you remembered for the rest of the day. Sometimes that scowl turned into words you just did not want to hear.
Sad to say I do not remember any food fights, and that is too darn bad, because those grayish hotdogs would have made most excellent projectiles. Alley OOP!
