I remember bringing you home. You were so small and cuddly with your tiny paws and soft fur.

You bounced around the room with eyes flashing and ears flopping.
Once in a while, you'd let out a little yelp just to let me know this
was your territory.

Making a mess of the house and chewing on everything in sight became a passion and when I scolded you, you just put your head down and looked up at me with those innocent eyes as if to say: "I'm sorry, but I'll do it again as soon as you're not watching."

As you got older, you protected me by looking out the window and
barking at everyone who walked by.

When I had a tough day at work, you would be waiting for me with
your tail wagging just to say, "Welcome home, I missed you." You
never had a bad day and I could always count on you to be there for

When I sat down to read the paper and watch TV, you would hop on my lap looking for attention. You never asked for anything more than to have me pat you head so you could go to sleep with your head over my leg.

As you got older, you moved around more slowly. Then one day, old
age finally took its toll, and you couldn't stand on those wobbly
legs anymore. I knelt down and patted you lying there, trying to
make you young again. You just looked up at me as if to say you
were old and tired and that after all these years of not asking
for anything, you had to ask me to do one last favor.

With tears in my eyes, I drove you one last time to the vet. One
last time you were lying next to me.

For some strange reason you were able to stand up in the animal
hospital - perhaps it was your sense of pride.

As the vet led you away, you stopped for an instant, turned your
head and looked at me as if to say: "Thank you for taking car of me."

I thought, "No - thank YOU for taking care of ME!"

I second that that dogs have souls, I can't Thank you!
Right now I am trying to get myself ready to say see you latter to my little dogs.
I am hoping Tia Maria will make till our 16th Anniversary Jan. 1st., but I am not counting on it, her back legs aren't working hardly anymore. She comes from a very bad Puppy Mill, that starved her as a baby, she didn't get what she needed to make and keep her bones strong. As hard we tried to look after her and give her what she needed, nothing came fix those few important months. Mind you if you went by her attitude you won't know she has problems, she is so wonderful and wants nothing more then be happy and play.
As for my other little guy Popkorn Oscar well the Doc said, his heart is bad, as is his kidneys, plus he is almost completely blind. He is 17 1/2 and has the same attitude as her, really he is the one that taught her how to be happy, he has always been a well adjusted happy camper. He was a reject show dog, because he was born with an extra toe and his line on his face wasn't straight. But to me not only is he a show dog, he is a Blue Ribbon Winner, the way he has helped Tia is amazing.
I never realised how really close they are until this year. It is like now they watch out for each even more. In spite of neither of them really being able to do a thing to defend their selves, but I am sure they would die trying too.
Some years ago my dear Father and Brother passed on and just last week I Dreamed they and all my other sweet pets that I have lost over the years were welcoming my 2 little dogs into Heaven. The Dream was so real I woke up with happy/sad tears. My Dreams have been very real in my life the realest one was when I Dreamed Dad has passed on and then I found out from a Doctor Dad pass on at the same I have the Dream. That bothered me for years.
I believe we all are Spiritual Beings. The Bible says he loves all he has made and animals are high on his list. They have their place here and in heaven and they have a better line to God then us. I have tried my best to be good to my pets because I need them on my side when my time comes.
Again I want to Thank you your wonderful words about you dog has some helped me in many ways.
May God Bless you and comfort you in your time of need.
Warm Regards JackieO
