In this scary day and age I find it increasingly difficult to find anyone that is making sense including burger joints. There is the odd politician uttering a few sane words, but it has gotten so bad I cannot even watch the cable news channels anymore. Basically, I am sick and tired of them focusing on things other than the welfare of the people.
How can anyone compete with the sounds of Fox News and Glenn Beck? Their continuous insane rants and ridiculous opinions are absolutely scaring the nation. Jon Stewart said it best when he claimed that the shouting media were the ones really hurting our countries.
What we need to do is look to the "little folk" of these great nations who can help restore sanity. We need "Joe and Joanna Q Public" to come forth and use their voices. Instead of complaining, the clear voices of the people need to hold their elected officials accountable, and tell them what a lousy job they are doing. Not vote for them again!
Sane voices need to tell people to start buying and supporting Canadian and American manufacturers. Outsourcing jobs should have been stopped a long time ago and those jobs given back to the people. What it all boils down to is we have to speak up and declare war on those that continue to bully people into "group thinkers". Put on those Darth Vader hats like Jon Stewart did when he spoke of political nuisances and take back the power.
I have a wonderful role model in my life by the name of Marsha Shearer. She has become my voice of sanity when I become infuriated the way things are heading. Marsha is a retired school principal from Florida engaged in everything in her community. In 2008 she was one of 10 supporters chosen to meet then - candidate Obama in Denver before he accepted the party's nomination.
The Democratic party's "Organizing for America” chose her to write their newsletter on October 15th about meeting Obama. Half a million people read what she wrote. She does not stop there - if something needs to be done for the community she gets involved.
There was no recycling where she lived and she organized many spirited discussions and meetings in her community to get the job done. I could go on and on, but more of her example is what we need in this country. She refused to be set in a "groupthink" and went out to do the best she could to make her community better. Can you imagine if everyone did that?
I told her how disappointed I was in Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. One was portrayed as being one for change when in essence I felt change was not happening. The latter one I have no comment at all, and that is all I will say. My opinions on Canadian politics could sake the Tim-Bit nation.
I could write a grocery list of things I am not happy that Harper has done. Using government departments for partisan purposes and getting rid of the process of lowering the flag on Parliament Hill every time a soldier died in Afghanistan are just a few.
I expressed my disdain to Marsha and instead of taking a fork to a few bumper stickers I asked her to write some words of sanity so I could understand. This is what she wrote.
A Personal Reflection
We seem to be a nation of short attention spans, instant gratification and lousy memories but somehow I thought the Democratic base, committed to electing Barack Obama, was beyond that. Yet we seem to have fallen into the trap; we are behaving like jilted lovers, ticked off because Obama hasn't accomplished all that he set out to do in the 20 months he's actually held office.
I won't list our frustrations; there are many and we know what they are. But let's take a breath for a moment and consider how irresponsible Congress has been in this process.
Given the seriousness of the economic crisis President Obama inherited, one would think that concern for this country and its citizens would trump politics as usual. So wrong. Republicans and Tea Partiers seized on the worry and fear and did all they could to make it the key component of our daily lives. Egged on by Beck, Palin, and others of their ilk and funded by the Koch brothers, the US Chamber of Commerce et.al, and using the Internet as the weapon of choice, we are bombarded by pleas to fear and fight those different from us and blame others rather than solve problems.
The goal of making things better was replaced by the goal to regain power. OK. We know all this. But let's give this administration a full four years before passing judgment. Remember the fire in the belly and how good that felt. Keep the dream alive.
You see there are opinions of sanity within us whether we are Canadian or American.
We can either be like the 'groupthinks' and gradually destroy our countries or be like Marsha. We just have to find that voice inside and work hard to make our countries strong again.
I know this seems like just more words that are not easy to digest when you are unemployed, or losing your home. But as I keep saying everyday,
"If you don't have faith you have a whole lot of nothing."
"May the force be with you!"

The comments about the new "Star Wars Burgers" from "Quick" in France featured above are just as political as opinions about our governments. Here are some of them:
"May the force be with you! Because you'll have to force yourself to put this into your mouth!"
"They have altered the bun. Pray they don't alter it any further."
"Better eating through chemistry, by way of Monsanto."
"The white topping on the Jedi Burger looks kind of like little pieces of cheese. I wonder if there is a description somewhere..."
"The cholesterol is strong with this one. I find your lack of onions disturbing".
"Somewhere a star wars geek just splooged in their pants!"
"No Rick Santorum burgers please!"
