Today, the plans for the Titanic II were revealed. This idea is nothing but a total marketing fail, as nothing says safety like boarding the newly proposed Titanic II. Yes boys and girls,  Australian billionaire Clive Palmer is preparing to have Titanic ll built in China. There is absolutely nothing to fear as since it's being built in the far east.  You know that the hull of the ship will be made with the highest quality plastic that money can buy. What could possibly go wrong?

The mining tycoon will mimic the original Titanic and will retain the first, second and third-class divisions and also include a new "safety" deck. The new safety deck will feature lifeboats (made in China), safety chutes (also made in China) as well as the best in common public rooms that money can buy - in China.

The upper decks would retain the aesthetics of the ship in similar locations as the original which sank on April 15, 1912 after hitting an iceberg. Finnish-based ship design and engineering company Deltamarin have also featured plans for new escape stairs and service elevators, which is reassuring - or is it?  In the last 100 years I wonder how many people have thought,

"I know, lets build the Titanic II"!

This is the third reincarnation of the Titanic to be planned. The first two were announced in the mid 90's when the movie was a hit and neither got past the drawing board.

Of course nothing says "good idea" like recreating a ship that sank within a week of its first voyage.  The sequel to the movie will be done in 30 years and this time Kate and Leo will consummate their relationship in 2012 Toyota Corolla.

The plans also feature new escape stairs and service elevators, while one deck has been re-designed to provide crew accommodation, laundry and machinery.

The flamboyant billionaire said Titanic II's first voyage remains set for late 2016, with the boat due to sail from China to England ahead of her maiden passenger journey to North America. Interest was "overwhelming", he said. One has to wonder if he also owns property at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean  with an easement for passenger arrivals.

The self-made businessman, who has an estimated wealth of $3.85 billion is set to make millions- or so he thinks!

"We've retained the essence of the Titanic by having first, second and third class. I think that's very important," Palmer said.

"So if you book on third class you can share a bathroom, sit down at a long table for dinner every night, have some Irish stew and a jig in the night."

Oh really?

Will only the rich will get lifeboats, similar to 1912?  I am thinking they really need to fill this ship to max occupancy with Test Dummies, and run the same path as the first Titanic, about the same time of the year. Only then will we will know it's safe for the public.

Though the plans are yet to be approved Palmer said his shipping company Blue Star Line was committed to the project, and would allow Chinese shipbuilders CSC Jinling Shipyard to begin work soon. Which means the following in laymen's terms- "built by the lowest bidder".  Is Palmer going to follow up Titanic II with the Hindenburg II? The area that the ship will service has not been made clear and here's hoping it's not the Bermuda Triangle.

The original Titanic, which was built in Ireland was no match for icebergs. One good thing is with global warming there should be less icebergs out there for the new ship to hit. It was also noted that Italian sea captain Francesco Schettino of the Costa Concordia disaster need not apply fir employment. Of course I am trying to make light of an incredibly stupid scenario but to quote Charlie Brown,

Good Grief!

The SS Great Eastern, which first sailed in 1868 suffered a far more forceful collision with no consequences. All you need is a reinforced double hull.

I've wondered for years if a pykrete boat could have  survived that iceberg.  Pykrete is paper pulp and water, frozen.  It lasts longer than blue ice, and could be kept cold with the same technology as ice rinks, which is cooled ethylene glycol cooled  run through tubes.  Pykrete Titanic could be a worth while experiment.   Canada made some pykrete boats to win WWII, but the war was over before they were launched.

Everyone knows what happened to Titanic...  They sheer tragedy of it all.  Is there anyway investors could make more people , feel more nervous by standing on the docks watching Titanic 2 set sail and wonder what if?   And I would bet you bottom dollar they passengers have to wonder ,"What if" as well...  I only hope that boardrooms where this idea is even brought up , find better things to do with there time than have really stupid ideas in my opinion...

Honoring these brave souls to me is why they should'nt even be thinking of building another one.

Titanic and China, right, there's a fine combination, but I'm sure there will be more than enough people with more money than brain to rush into it.

Hmmm, this could turn into a "titanic" Darwin award moment.
