And for God's sake don't set up lawn chairs in your yard to watch the storm come in while raising your fist to the sky and shouting, "BRING IT ON MOTHER NATURE!"
But seriously, good luck my friends and take care of yourselves......

There are 100 mph sustained winds with gusts up to 120 mph. Irene is expected to strike the Outer Banks and the NC coast between 7 and 8 am. Meteorologists are predicting 40 million people will be effected by winds of at least 50 mph.

Steve I have been following it too. They are closing all the airports tomorrow at noon. It is expected to make landfall between 5 -6 am in NC and hit NYC sometime Saturday night. It is time to pray for a miracle....Even if it slows down the tropical storm is expected to last 24 hours along with high winds which will still cause flooding. I hope it turns to the east....

The latest evacuation map for NYC I could find. Holy cow! There has never before been an evacuation like this.
There is still a chance for this storm to wander a little further out to sea than expected. We can only hope.

The UK is too insignificant to name Hurricanes - not that we get them, just some strong storms.
If we did, I'd move n hang my hat in another country. We're not too sold on the Great in Britain here these days but I really do feel sorry for people who live in the paths of these behemoth winds,seas etc.
